Recently, I was looking for a gift to give a young man of 16 years old – his mother had told me that he was “into” video games and specifically games that go along with a handheld portable game console.
Not having had much exposure in this market, I made it my business to find out as much as I could about this incredibly popular item making me wonder how I managed to live the last few years without, somehow, having absorbed more information on this subject.
I did what I always do when I need information, I started with the Internet. As soon as I entered Playstation Portable devices, I was immediately assaulted with thousands and thousands of sites to visit. Wow! That was impressive (and here I always thought I was a pretty with it 40 something, obviously I was missing some vital information LOL)..
Now, where to start with all these “hits”? I know that I wanted a game, so this is where I started, but I soon got completely sidetracked by the actual history of the PlayStation Portable. For some reason, I was quite surprised to find out that this system has been around, in some form, or another since 2004 or even earlier. Of course, the systems have become highly sophisticated since then, but I was amazed at how quickly the whole concept grew and literally caught on with both adults and the younger generation.
As I scrolled through the video games available, I could not believe the level of sophistication involved in these. Obviously, gone are the days of the Ms Pac Man system, which I have to say, was pretty “hot” during my time.
No wonder kids love to play these Playstation portable games, I found a few that I was thinking of buying for myself and I really enjoyed reading the list of titles under the “greatest hits” which were fun to browse through.
As I kept reading, I was also interested in the Nintendo DS offerings, which, offer a nice selection of games of their own and made me an instant fan when I discovered that they offer “remakes” on some of the games that I enjoyed in my younger days!! But apparently, Nintendo DS and Playstation Portable games are not interchangeable – which now makes me wonder what games exactly I am going to buy my friend’s son since I found titles that I like from both companies (back to the drawing board).
I think I am getting old.
